Back Pain
Back pain is the second most common reason people visit their family doctors or emergency/urgent visits (the first is upper respiratory infections). It is the most common reason for inability to perform daily tasks in people under 40 years old. The spinal column is a complex system of bone, discs, muscles, ligaments, and tendons designed to protect the spinal cord and critical nerves. The spine accommodates the body’s need to move as freely as possible. An injury, strain, or erosion of any part of the system can result in pain. However, the precise cause of pain is not always easy to distinguish. That’s where our diagnostic training and experience can make a real difference. Fortunately measures can be taken to prevent or lessen most back pain episodes. Surgery is rarely needed to treat back pain.
